Sinopse:
Kei Kurono é um jovem, inseguro e pervertido. Nunca se importou com nada e com ninguém. Um dia após voltar da escola encontra no metrô um antigo conhecido seu, que não vê desde quando era uma criança, Masaru Katou. De início o ignora mas este observa um mendigo bêbado caindo nos trilhos. Katou tenta ajudá-lo, mas não consegue sozinho e pede a ajuda das pessoas na estação, mas ninguém lhe dá ouvidos até que ele avista e reconhece o Kurono e pede sua ajuda. todos na estação começam a olhar para o Kurono que pressionado resolve ajudar e salvam o mendigo, mas os dois acabam morrendo atropelados. Eles se espantam ao ver que foram levados até uma sala, juntos com outras pessoas. No meio dela está uma esfera negra, Gantz. Ela toca uma música e passa uma missão: matar Alienígenas. Mostra o arsenal de armas e o uniforme de cada. A missão deles é sobreviver ao jogo e matar os aliens indicados dentro do tempo estipulado.

1 - It's the Beginning of a Brand New Day
After Kei and his childhood friend, Kato, are torn into bloody pieces by a speeding train, they awake in an unfamiliar room, surrounded by strangers. In the middle of the room is a bizarre black sphere: the Gantz.

3 - OK, Here Are Your Scores
The scores are tallied and Nishi explains some of what he knows about the rules of the strange world of the Gantz. The unusual situation grows even odder the next day when Kei wakes—and finds that this nightmare is no dream.
4 - That Means at the Time...
Seemingly back among the living, Kato must protect his brother from their hateful aunt. Meanwhile, Keis special suit gives him an advantage against the bullies at school. But will it help him when Kishimoto appears at his door?
5 - All Right!
Despite his best efforts, Kei remains unsatisfied during Kishimotos overnight stay at his apartment. At the place Kato calls home, more ugly evidence of abuse piles up.
6 - We're After You
Katos patience is being tested. At home, the abuse dished out by his aunt pushes him to the breaking point. Meanwhile, at school, a group of bullies forces him to take decisive and drastic action.
7 - Uh-oh!
A new round begins for the gang. Appearing before the Gantz, they find themselves joined by a diverse group of fresh players. As the game gets underway, Kei panics when he realizes his suit is nowhere to be found.
